What you can actually get back in the Northland

Which rebates apply to you depends on who bills you, not on where you shop. Check the utility names on your power and gas bills, then read the matching card. We will tell you what your job qualifies for when we quote it, and get you the paperwork.

ComfortSystems

Equipment has to be on the ComfortSystems rebate list, and the credit lands on your gas account rather than arriving as a check. The City of Duluth also runs a low-interest energy loan for gas heating work.

Minnesota Energy Resources

Furnace, 97% AFUE: $500 + $300 bonus
Furnace, 94% AFUE: $350
Furnace, 92% AFUE: $200
Boiler, 90% AFUE: $200 + $150 bonus

HRV or ERV air exchanger: $400

The bonus amounts run on installs between July 15 and November 15, 2026, with applications due December 4, 2026. Funding is first-come, and homes built in the last two years are excluded.

The federal tax credits ended after 2025

The 25C efficiency credit and the 25D clean energy credit both expired for anything placed in service after December 31, 2025. That covers the credits people still ask us about: up to $2,000 on a heat pump, up to $600 on a furnace or boiler, and 30% on geothermal. If you had qualifying work finished on or before that date you can still claim it on that year's return, but there is no federal credit on a system we install today. Anyone telling you otherwise is quoting a page they haven't updated.

IRS guidance on the 2025 change

Minnesota's state rebates still haven't launched

Minnesota's federally funded Home Energy Rebates (HEAR and HOMES) have been announced for years and, as of the Department of Commerce's mid-2026 update, still have no launch date. Two things worth knowing: the rebates are income-qualified, and work finished before the program opens will not qualify retroactively. We are not going to tell you to put off a failing furnace waiting for it.
